I woke up early to make all the necessary trip preparations for Winnipeg. Calling CBSA, filing eAPIS, filing our IFR flight plan, etc. The flight to Winnipeg would be fairly short, but I always give myself plenty of time when customs is involved, and I am glad we did. We had a little difficulty finding an Uber to the airport, but we got there early enough to allow me to preflight while Katherine and Magic hung out in the FBO. After our appointed time arrived, we departed and were shortly across the border into Canada.
Landing in Winnipeg offered pretty cool views of the city and the Canadian ATC was friendly as always.
We parked at the FBO and called CBSA to report our arrival. And waited, and waited, and waited... for 45 minutes on hold in the stuffy airplane, with the door closed. Finally we were cleared in over the phone. The FBO people had literally rolled out the red carpet for us.
As a bonus, since I elected to top off the fuel at the high-but-not-ridiculous prices, there were no FBO or other fees. We got our Uber to downtown Winnipeg and I booked our hotel. We stashed Magic in her travel crate and went out to grab some poutine and beer.
We walked quite a little ways in the city, and had a great time enjoying the beautiful weather.
After our late lunch, we retrieved Magic and walked to a different part of the city along the river, where we encountered a huge nest of gophers.
Afterwards, we happened upon a large Asian cultural festival of some sort.
