I had spent most of the week in Deadwood watching the long term weather. I wanted to be in Yellowstone during the upcoming weekend, and I planned to 'stage' in Cody prior to the mountain crossing, with Cody being just east of Sylvan Pass and having a decent little town to stay in. Prog charts were showing good VFR to get to Cody, and into the weekend it was looking good to get through the pass into Yellowstone. Departed VFR towards Cody and went to the north side of Bighorn Canyon. Made a pass by Devil's Tower National Monument on the way. Easy flight, lots of pretty scenery to look at. Easy landing in Cody. Very friendly FBO people here suggested a cheap taxi company. Hotels were fairly expensive, especially for a Super 8 Motel, but we needed a place to spend 2 nights that was dog friendly and nothing else was available. We found some excellent tacos on the first night, walked to Wal-Mart to buy Katherine some new AirPods Pro and me some sodas. We also ended up buying Magic a corny looking dog sweater, since they only had one size that fit her. We worked Friday in Cody, but the situation was less than ideal. The hotel wifi was pretty poor, our cell phones had no signal at all, and our 'backup' Verizon MiFi was struggling too. Ended up using the MiFi almost exclusively, and it worked just enough. I walked into town on Friday around lunchtime to get some (excellent) BBQ, and Katherine and Magic met me in the city park to have lunch and play toss with Magic. Cody is an interesting town, with the main town being up on almost a mesa, and our hotel was at the base, maybe 100 feet down. So there was a little footpath behind the hotel going up the very steep hill. We walked up there a couple times. We also walked into town for dinner on Friday and had a beer and a pretty good pizza at a gastropub-type restaurant.
