The plan today was to get as close to Seattle as possible, but a stationary front was creating a lot of IMC up in the Seattle area, with low freezing levels. Initially I considered going north from Yellowstone to the Missoula, Montana area, and possibly up to Glacier National Park, but clouds and low-ish ceilings were going on up in the Missoula area, so decided going a bit SW through Idaho was the best plan. I was also keen to get out of the mountains as soon as possible to give us more options. After a brief search, Twin Falls, Idaho had cheap fuel and a crew car, so that became the lunch and re-plan stop. West Yellowstone was the highest altitude airport of the trip (around 6700 ft MSL), but cool temps meant DA only around 7000 for our departure, so there were no real performance problems. Climbed to 10,500 feet for our westbound flight, which went very quickly since we were starting very high already. It was a very easy flight with no real weather or traffic concerns, and I decided we would make a small diversion to overfly the Craters of the Moon National Monument. Heading into Twin Falls, we had a great view landing over the falls, which were more impressive than expected. Grabbed a crew car, the desk staff was very friendly and suggested we drive to visit the Shoshone Falls. We also grabbed some more excellent BBQ in town, and played a bit of toss with Magic in the city park.
