We're Ryan and Katherine, and we flew to Alaska and back in Spring 2024 with our dog Magic 🐶.

The weather forecast for Thursday was fantastic, with just a few clouds in the morning and clear skies after noon. We woke up to already-clear skies. We packed up and took another cab back to the airport and got ready to depart.
Owing to the clear skies, I was actually able to take a more direct route for once, and I planned to cross the Canadian Rockies at 10,500 ft. We quickly departed and opened our flight plan and headed towards the mountains.
The Canadian Rockies are truly gorgeous, and we had an easy time crossing that morning.
The rides were smooth and Katherine was even able to hang onto enough cell phone signal to get some work done.
Although it was a fairly long flight, it was an easy one. The middle of the route featured a very wide valley and low terrain, but the last 100 miles or so of the route would take us back into the mountains that surround Vancouver.
We entered the valley and made our way down towards Hope, BC.
After Hope, we hung a right turn and started descending to clear the extensive Vancouver airspace.
I called up Victoria Terminal and got some much-needed help navigating the labyrinthine airspace.
They had us transit Abbotsford Tower airspace and then head over to Boundary Bay, which was humming with activity.
After landing, ATC helped direct us to the transient parking and I tied us down. (Always bring your own ropes for this trip)
Fortunately we were now back in a big city, so we got an Uber and I booked a hotel right on Vancouver Harbor. After getting there we took Magic out for a little walk along the harbor, where we watched the seaplanes.
After that, we stashed her in her crate and we got some lunch in the same area (unfortunately no dog friendly patios in Vancouver that we could find).
That evening, we took a walk around Canada Place and Gastown.
