Worked the morning and got an early afternoon (local time) start. Brian and I had stopped by the airport earlier to grab my GPS database card so I could update the nav data, and clean the bird poop off of the plane. As it turns out, the only available transient tiedown spots were within "pooping distance" of a tree that apparently contained bright purple berry-eating birds. Anyway, I got the airplane prepped while Katherine finished the work day, we went back home, grabbed Katherine, and made a quick stop by Sandy and Larry's house before departing. It was a short, uncomplicated VFR flight. Weather in the Bay Area was nice, so I planned to do a very brief 'mini Bay Tour' on the way to Sonoma. It was easy enough to stay out of the Bravo and make a quick flyby of Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and turn north towards the Marin Headlands. We had an easy arrival and landing in Sonoma. We got a rental car, booked a hotel in Santa Rosa for two nights while at the FBO, and spent two days there. Our first night we made the obligatory stop at Russian River Brewery to have Pliny the Elder on tap. On Thursday we took a half day off work and headed down to Sonoma to do some wine tasting. We had a great time visiting tasting rooms, including Highway 23 and Pangloss Cellars, where we had an excellent tasting and cheeseboard. (And Katherine joined their subscription club)
