Returned the rental car at the FBO and got ready to go down to SoCal to visit with my other cousin David and his wife Chris. We were amused that the FBO was selling Pliny the Elder bottles in a mini fridge. There was beautiful VFR weather near Sonoma and the Bay Area, but it was MVFR and IFR down in SoCal, so I decided to file IFR and go down the coast. We had great views of SF and Big Sur on the way south, but we were a little too far offshore to get a good view of Hearst Castle. LA area was all clouded up, so we got bumped around pretty good on the descent into French Valley, but was able to cancel and go visual. There was absolutely not a soul around at the FBO or at the airport, so we just left a voicemail and told them who we were, chocked the plane with my own chocks and left the airport via the pedestrian gate. The first night, they were going to see their daughter Brenna compete in a volleyball tournament, so Katherine and I got takeout and went to watch the new James Bond movie. We spent 2 nights with Chris and David and borrowed their car to visit San Diego for the day, including some free tickets to the San Diego Zoo. After the Zoo we walked around San Diego, including all the way around the harbor, and finished our visit with an electric scooter ride back to the car.
