We had planned to stay another day or two in SoCal, but the next few days of weather were looking quite windy and not favorable at all in SoCal and our next stop (Vegas), so decided to leave a day early. It was an easy VFR flight to Catalina, jogging a bit north to avoid the mountains and stay out of the LA area airspaces and then direct to Catalina. I had reviewed all the info about landing there and it wasn't any undue challenge, other than idiots who don't listen to CTAF and take the opposite direction runway for takeoff while I'm on short final. (And making lots of radio calls) Catalina was beautiful, especially in flight, but a bit of a dud stop. We had arranged a shuttle to Avalon for the day, and a taxi to return, but the shuttle never showed up, stranding us and another couple. After discussing with the shuttle people, apparently the guy never came to work that day and never told anyone. They promised (lied) several times that they were "on the way" to get us, but after 2 hours of waiting (out of a planned 5 hour stop) they said they were "leaving to get us in 30 more minutes", we decided there wasn't time to make the trip to/from Avalon and get back by airport close (5pm), gave up and just had the Bison Burgers/Tacos in the airport restaurant and hit the road. Thanks for nothing, Catalina Island Shuttle operators.
