We departed Laconia VFR just after lunch and made a little sightseeing detour by Mt. Washington, NH as we headed up towards Maine. I decided I would follow the coast afterwards and we made our way up towards Bar Harbor. The flight was easy and the skies were clear. We landed in Bar Harbor, ME, which was busy on this particular Saturday morning. We grabbed our rental car and loaded our camping gear into it, and set off for our campsite. The campgrounds were busy this weekend, with lots of activity and people enjoying the gorgeous summer Maine weather. We got our little camp setup (with minimal gear, just the basic tent/mats/bags/pillows setup) and drove around Mt. Desert Island exploring a bit. We had a great time camping for 2 nights (the first of which was pretty cold!), driving around to see the various sights in Acadia National Park, and visiting Bar Harbor itself. Unfortunately the timing was never right with the tides to go over to Bar Island, but we did see the gravel bar bridge sticking out a bit. We enjoyed our campfire with boxed red wine from one of the local stores each night.
