Our next stop was to visit my wife's mom and her boyfriend in Philadelphia, PA. I considered briefly the other smaller airports, but after looking at the fees for Philadelphia International (KPHL), I decided it actually made the most sense to go there. It's a $12 landing and $10 security fee, with $20 per night overnight. I figured that you probably can't park a car in Philadelphia overnight for $20, so this wasn't bad. It was also only 15 minutes from where they live. So I filed IFR and we set off towards Philly. Picked up my IFR in the air near N89, which may have been a small mistake. (Controller seemed less than amused that we were doing an airborne pickup into PHL) It ended up being fine, though. They gave me a quick re-route and we were quickly near Philadelphia. A rainshower was pummeling downtown Philly, but nowhere else, which was cool to see, and since they were running the converging ILSs, we were given the ILS 17, which flies right by downtown and has some great views. We decided to stay 5 nights with my wife's family, and we had a great time doing touristy things at Independence Hall, watching a free outdoor concert, and getting the obligatory Cheesesteaks, etc.
